A Voice of the Unheard – Chinmayi K. M. (2nd Year, ISE)

India , the world’s largest democracy, tormented by inflation, scams worth thousands of crores, bad economy and tainted by corruption. The current scenario of our country reminds me of Sir Winston Churchill’s vituperative statements “Power will go to the hands of rascals, rogues and freebooters. All Indian leaders will be of low calibre and men of straw. They will have sweet tongues and silly hearts. They will fight amongst themselves for power and India will be lost in political squabbles. A day would come when even air and water would be taxed.” Incredibly we’ve worked very hard to prove him right.

Corruption in India is a consequence of the nexus between Bureaucracy, politics and criminals. India is now no longer considered a soft state. It has now become a consideration state where everything can be had for a consideration. Today, the number of ministers with an honest image can be counted on fingers. At one time, bribe was paid for getting wrong things done but now bribe is paid for getting right things done at right time.

In this hour of crisis, I would like India to be led by a Leader-A voice who can represent millions of people out there suffering in the hands of poverty and corruption, A voice so mighty that it can reach out to the masses that they are not unheard any more! Today common man is falling prey to the erroneous activities in the country. We need a leader who can cater to such masses. Merely giving great speeches is just not enough. A man who can act according to the promises made should be at India’s helm in 2014.

As rightfully said by Abraham Lincoln “Nearly all men can stand adversity but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power” .A leader should be time tested and should use his powers to lead the country to prosperity. The fall in rupee value, so many scams being exposed have brought great shame to our country. Unless India stands up to the world, no one will respect us. We deserve a corruption-free government.

Change is brought about when ordinary people do extraordinary things-Barack Obama. Our country needs a change and more importantly it needs a leader who can free the country of its miseries, serve the poor people of the country and not just do caste-based politics for vote banks. In a nutshell we need a voice to guide the country, us to safe havens from the shackles of corruption.
